The Story Bible: how Paige remembers your characters across chapters

The Story Bible is Paige’s memory for each book: characters, places, items, lore, factions, plot arcs and your outline. Paige reads it before she writes and updates it as the story grows, so later chapters agree with earlier ones.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open the Story Bible

In the workspace sidebar, open the Story Bible for your project.

  2. 2

    Add or import entries

Press + (New Entry) to write one yourself, or Import Story Bible to upload a file or paste text. Paige also adds entries as you write.

  3. 3

    Pick the entry type

Use Character, Location, Item, Lore, Faction, Plot Arc or Outline. Group entries into folders if you like.

  4. 4

    Lock what must not change

Use Lock on an entry and Paige will read it but never edit it.

  5. 5

Hide what Paige should not use

Use Hide from Paige on a folder of notes you want to keep for yourself.

  6. 6

    Update it on request

Choose Bible in the action bar and tell Paige what to add or change, for example "Add that Mara lost her brother in the fire."

Why it matters

AI chat tools forget what happened a few thousand words ago. In a novel that means changed eye colours, forgotten promises and characters who suddenly know secrets they never learned. The Story Bible keeps those facts outside the conversation, so Paige checks them before every draft.

Each book has its own Story Bible. For a series, import the previous book’s notes into the new project’s Bible.

Importing notes

Import Story Bible has two tabs: Upload a file (.zip, .md, .txt or .json) and Paste text. When pasting, put three dashes on their own line between entries; the first line of each becomes its name. Importing only adds. If a name matches an existing entry you get both copies to compare, and locked entries are skipped.

Questions

Does the Story Bible update itself?

Yes. Paige adds and updates entries as the story develops, and you can review them. You can also edit any entry yourself, and lock the ones you never want changed.

Can one Story Bible cover a whole series?

Each book has its own Story Bible. To carry a series forward, import the earlier book’s notes into the new book’s Bible.

Can I bring my NovelCrafter codex?

Yes. Zip the codex folder NovelCrafter exports and upload it in Import Story Bible. Aliases and tags come across.

Is my Story Bible private?

Yes. Your projects are private to your account and are never sold or used to train AI models.
