How to check continuity and run a Book Report in WriteWithPaige
Continuity checks compare your chapters with your Story Bible and with each other, and flag contradictions like a changed eye colour or a timeline slip. Book Report reads the whole book and lists what keeps going wrong, from pacing to pet phrases. Both are on paid plans and never change your text.

Step by step
Step 1: Check one chapter
Open the chapter and tap “Edit” in the status bar. Choose the “Continuity” tab and tap “Check this chapter”. Paige compares it with your Story Bible.
Step 2: Check the whole book
In the Chapters list, tap the shield icon (“Check the whole book for continuity errors”). On a phone, tap “More chapter actions” then “Check the whole book for continuity”. Tap “Check my book”.
Step 3: Run a Book Report
Tap “Edit” in any chapter, choose the “Book Report” tab and tap “Run Book Report”. You can close it while it runs.
Step 4: Act on what you find
Read each finding, tap “Go to text” to jump to the passage, then fix it yourself, ask Paige with “Ask AI”, or update the Story Bible if the chapter is right and the entry is wrong.
Which check to use when
All three tools only flag things. Nothing in your book changes until you change it.
- “Continuity” tab (one chapter)
- This chapter against your Story Bible. Fast. Use it after you finish or import a chapter.
- “Whole-book continuity check”
- Every chapter against your Story Bible, then chapters against each other. Use it before a beta read or after big rewrites.
- “Book Report”
- The whole book for craft: pacing, show versus tell, dialogue, tone, readability and repeated phrases. Use it when a draft is complete.
The per-chapter Continuity tab
Tap “Edit” in the status bar, then “Continuity”. “Check this chapter” saves your latest words first, then shows “Comparing this chapter against your story bible…”.
Each finding is labelled by kind (“Character”, “Timeline”, “Plot”, “Setting” or “Other”) and how serious it is. It quotes the line, explains the problem and, after an arrow, suggests a fix. A clean result says no contradictions were found and how many Bible entries were checked. On very long chapters only the first part is checked, and the tab tells you so.
This check is on any paid plan. Free accounts see “Continuity check is a premium feature.” Paid plans include a daily allowance; if you use it up you see “Daily limit reached”.
The whole-book continuity check
The window is called “Whole-book continuity check”. It explains that Paige reads every chapter against your story bible, then compares chapters to each other, and that nothing in your book is changed.
Tap “Check my book”. You see “Reading your book…” and how many chapters are done. A full novel can take 15 minutes or more. You can close the window and the check keeps running. “Cancel” stops it.
Results show the total number of findings and when the check ran. “Between chapters” lists clashes from one chapter to another, such as a character who leaves town in chapter 3 and is back at dinner in chapter 4. Below that, each chapter has its own findings, or “No contradictions in this chapter.”. Tap “Run again” after you fix things.
This is on any paid plan, with a small daily allowance of whole-book runs. Free accounts see “Whole-book continuity check is a premium feature.”
What Book Report tells you
Book Report reads every chapter for pacing, showing versus telling and dialogue, then pulls out what recurs across the book. Tap “Edit”, then “Book Report”, then “Run Book Report”. It shows “Reading your book…” and you can close it while it runs.
- A headline: how many notes across how many chapters, or a clean pass.
- A short summary of the book’s strengths and habits.
- “Recurring issues”: problems that show up again and again, each labelled “Pacing”, “Show, don’t tell”, “Dialogue”, “Tone”, “Readability” or “Other”, with how serious it is.
- “Across the book”: “Pet phrases” (phrases you repeat, with how many times and in which chapters) and “Crutch words” (words you lean on, with counts).
- “By chapter”: tap any chapter to open its own craft notes.
- Free
- Not included. Tapping “Run Book Report” opens the plans window.
- Plus, Pro, Ultra, Business
- Included, with a daily allowance that grows with your plan.
How to act on the results
Findings come with buttons so you can deal with each one where it sits.
- The chapter is wrong: fix it by hand, or select the passage, tap “Ask AI” and tell Paige what to change. Her fix arrives as a draft you review.
- The Story Bible is wrong (you changed your mind while writing): update the entry instead. Paige follows the Bible from then on.
- It is deliberate (an unreliable narrator, a lie): tap “Ignore”.
- Many repeats of one phrase: use the editor’s quick rewrites (“Tighten”, “Vary sentences”) on each one, or ask Paige to sweep a few chapters for it.
- “Go to text”
- Opens the chapter and jumps to the passage. On a phone, the panel steps aside; tap “Back to edits” to return.
- “Ignore”
- Hides this finding and keeps it hidden on later runs. A strip says “Ignored. It won’t come back on later passes.” with “Undo”.
- “Add to Bible”
- Makes a Story Bible entry for a name, as “Character”, “Place” or “Term”.
"These two disagree" in the Story Bible
Paige also watches your Bible for entries that contradict each other. When she finds a pair, a card appears under “Paige noticed” headed “These two disagree”, showing each entry’s name and the fact it states.
Tap “Keep” on the one that is right now. Paige moves the other into a folder she does not read (“Hidden by Paige”), so nothing is deleted and you can move it back any time. Tap “Both are fine” if they don’t really clash, and you won’t be asked again. A locked entry is never the one hidden.
Questions
Will a continuity check change my chapters?
No. Every check only lists findings. You decide what to change.
Why does it say the check is a premium feature?
Continuity checks and Book Report are on paid plans (Plus, Pro, Ultra and Business). Free accounts can still use the Edit Pass.
How long does a whole-book check take?
It depends on the length. A full novel can take 15 minutes or more. You can close the window and come back; it keeps running.
Paige flagged something I did on purpose. What do I do?
Tap “Ignore”. It stays hidden on later runs. If you change your mind, use “Undo” on the strip that appears.
Why did Book Report only check some chapters?
Very long books are checked up to a per-run chapter limit, and very long chapters only in part. The report tells you when this happens.
Does the check use my Story Bible or just my chapters?
Both. The per-chapter and whole-book checks compare against your Story Bible, and the whole-book check also compares chapters with each other. Book Report looks at craft, not facts.
