How to ghostwrite a client’s novel with AI in WriteWithPaige
Give each client book its own project, load the client’s notes and voice, draft chapter by chapter, and export the manuscript under the client’s name. This guide uses the exact buttons you will see.
Step by step
- 1
Start one project per client book
Press New Project and name it for the client’s book. On your very first project a setup screen comes up instead; choose "I have a manuscript" there if the client has pages.
- 2
Load the client’s material
Open Import a manuscript. Use Import as Chapters for pages the client wrote, and Import to Bible for outlines, interview notes and character sheets.
- 3
Keep the project separate
In Settings, open Memory and switch on Keep "[book name]" separate. Paige then ignores memories saved under Everywhere while you write this book. Memories from this project are never used in your other projects either way.
- 4
Write the client’s voice into a Muse
Create a Muse and fill in Personality, Writing Style and Genres from the client’s samples. Put the client’s rules and never-say phrases in Custom Instructions. Pick it in the Muse selector for this project.
- 5
Add house rules as Skills
Open Skills and write a new one with the client’s house rules (for example British spelling, or no swearing). Choose Save for me, then pick this book under Turn on for a story and press Turn on.
- 6
Lock what the client approved
In the Story Bible, Lock the entries the client has signed off on. Paige reads locked entries but never edits them.
- 7
Draft chapter by chapter
Use New chapter or This chapter in the action bar and give Paige the beat for the chapter. Read every draft and rewrite what does not sound like the client.
- 8
Edit before delivery
Press Edit in the editor toolbar and use Run edit pass on each chapter. On paid plans, the Book Pass tab has Edit the whole book, and the Continuity tab checks a chapter against the Story Bible.
- 9
Export under the client’s name
Open Export and pick Word file, EPUB, Amazon KDP or Print book (PDF). Under Title page, choose Use a different name for this export, type the client’s name or pen name and press Use once. Leave it empty for no name.
Before you start: agree on AI with the client
Put in writing how you will use AI. The client publishes under their own name, so they need to know what the platform will ask them. Amazon KDP requires authors to disclose AI-generated text, even after substantial editing. Text you wrote yourself and only edited or brainstormed with AI counts as AI-assisted and needs no disclosure.
Copyright follows human authorship. The US Copyright Office said in January 2025 that text generated wholly by AI is not protected and that prompts alone are not authorship, while human writing, edits and arrangement can be. Have a lawyer check the rights clause in your contract.
Matching a client’s voice
Start from the client’s own words. Import two or three chapters or long emails they wrote, then ask Paige to list the habits in them: sentence length, favourite words, how they open a scene, what they never say. Put the habits in the Muse’s Writing Style and the never-say list in its Custom Instructions.
Try typing
“Read the chapters I imported and list the habits in this writer’s voice. Then list ten phrases they would never use.”
Paste the results into the client’s Muse.
Several clients at once
Each project keeps its own chapters, Story Bible, chosen Muse and Skills, so opening another project means working on another client’s book. Account-wide settings (Banned Words & Phrases, the Style setting, and the style Paige learns from your ratings) apply to every project, so keep client-specific rules in that client’s Muse or Skills. Your projects are private to your account and are never sold or used to train AI models.
Agencies with a team of writers can use the Business plan: every seat is its own private workspace, on one invoice.
Questions
Can I use AI to ghostwrite?
Yes, if your client knows and agrees. Put it in the contract, follow the publishing platform’s disclosure rules, and read and revise every chapter yourself.
How do I keep two clients’ books apart?
Give each book its own project. Memories from one project are never used in another, and Keep "[book name]" separate also shuts out memories saved under Everywhere. Keep client-specific rules in that client’s Muse or Skills, not in account-wide settings.
Can I deliver the book without my name on it?
Yes. Under Title page in Export, choose Use a different name for this export. Type the client’s name, or leave it empty for no author name.
Can one Story Bible cover a client’s whole series?
Each book has its own Story Bible. For the next book, start a new project and bring the earlier book’s notes in with Import Story Bible.
