Step by step
Step 1: Open Settings, then Subscription
Phone: “Open menu”, then “Settings”. Computer: “Settings” in the left rail. Scroll to the “Subscription” section.
Step 2: Upgrade
On Free, tap “Upgrade to Premium” and pick a plan. Already subscribed? Open the plans window and tap “Switch plan” on a bigger plan, then “Confirm upgrade”. It is charged today, prorated.
Step 3: Update your card or get invoices
Tap “Manage Subscription”. The secure billing portal opens, where you can change your card, see invoices and download receipts.
Step 4: Switch to annual
Monthly subscribers tap “Switch to annual”. The page shows your first year’s price, the price it renews at after year one, and credits the unused part of this month automatically.
Step 5: Pause or cancel
Tap “Cancel subscription”. Answer one question about why, then you may see an offer such as a pause. Take it, or tap the “No thanks” link to continue. Confirm with “Cancel subscription”.
Step 6: Change your mind
Cancelled by mistake? Tap “Keep my subscription”. Paused? Tap “Resume now”.
Upgrading and changing plans
Upgrades happen inside the plans window. Tap “Switch plan” on the plan you want, then tap “Confirm upgrade”. The note says “Charged today, prorated”, which means you pay only the difference for the rest of this billing period. The bigger allowance starts straight away.
Moving to a smaller plan opens the billing portal instead, where you confirm the switch.
Your stories, chapters and Story Bible never change when you switch plans.
Switching to annual
Monthly subscribers see a “Switch to annual” button at the top of the Subscription section. It says 50% off your first year. The page that opens is titled “Lock in a year of” your plan, and lists three lines: 12 months on monthly, “First year, annual + WRITE50”, and “Renews after year one at” the full yearly price.
Tap the switch button to pay for the year today. Unused time on this month is credited automatically. “Maybe later” takes you back to writing.
After the first year, annual plans renew at the normal yearly price, which still saves about 17% compared with paying monthly.
Pick your own price (Starter)
Starter lets you choose your own monthly price, inside a range the app shows. The more you pay, the more you can write each day. It is only offered in certain moments: in the cancel steps, from some emails, or in the plans window after you say the price is too high.
If you are on Starter, Settings shows “Change your price” so you can move it up or down later. If the offer is no longer open on your account, the page says “That offer has ended”.
Cancelling, step by step
Tap “Cancel subscription”. First comes one question, “Before you go, why are you cancelling?”, with reasons like “Too expensive”, “Not using it enough”, “Missing a feature I need”, “Switched to another tool”, “Quality wasn’t what I expected” and “Too complicated to use”. You can add a note. “Never mind, keep my subscription” closes it.
Next you may see one offer that fits your answer. Every offer has a “No thanks” link to keep going.
- “Your month is already paid”
- Reminds you that nothing renews before the date shown. “Remind me 3 days before” emails you so you can decide then, or tap “Cancel renewal anyway”.
- “Need a break, not a goodbye?”
- Pause instead. Pick how many months. Billing and premium access pause after your current period and come back on their own.
- “Stay for half price?”
- “Yes, 50% off for 2 months”, or for one month “Yes, half price next month”. After that it goes back to the normal price.
- “Pick your own price instead?”
- Switch to Starter at a price you choose.
- Switch to Plus
- Shown on bigger plans: move to Plus, with no charge today.
- “Save by switching to annual”
- Your plan billed yearly with the first-year discount.
After you cancel
The last screen, “Cancel your subscription?”, explains that billing stops for good and you keep full premium access until your current period ends. Nothing is removed immediately. Tap “Cancel subscription” to confirm and you see “You’re set to cancel” with the date.
Until that date, Settings shows “Access until” and a “Keep my subscription” button that undoes the cancel in one tap. After that date your account moves to Free and keeps all your work.
Paused subscriptions
While paused, Settings shows “Paused. Billing resumes” with the date. No charges happen while you are away, and everything turns back on automatically when the pause ends.
To come back sooner, tap “Resume now”. You can also still cancel from there.
Failed payments and renewal emails
If a payment doesn’t go through, the email links to a page titled “Pick the day you’d like me to try again”. Choose any day in the next 10 and your card is tried that morning. You can keep writing until then. You can also “Pay sooner” or “Use another card”.
Before an annual renewal you may get a reminder email. Its link opens “Turn off renewal?” with “Turn off renewal” or “Keep my plan”. Turning it off keeps full access until the end of the period, and your stories stay saved.
Questions
If I cancel, do I lose access straight away?
No. You keep full premium access until the end of the period you already paid for. Nothing is removed immediately.
Do I lose my stories when my plan ends?
No. Your account goes back to Free and every chapter, note and Story Bible entry stays.
How do I get an invoice or receipt?
Tap “Manage Subscription” in Settings. The billing portal lists your invoices and receipts to download.
I cancelled by mistake. How do I undo it?
Tap “Keep my subscription” in Settings before your access date. Nothing else changes.
Can I pause instead of cancelling?
Often, yes. The cancel steps may offer “Need a break, not a goodbye?”, where you pick how many months. Billing and premium access resume on their own.
I paid but the app still shows Free.
Make sure you are signed in with the same email you used at checkout. If it still looks wrong, use “Contact Support” in Settings.
